Where Is Cameroon Located?
Cameroon lies at the meeting point of Central and West Africa. Its western boundary meets Nigeria, while Chad is to the northeast and the Central African Republic to the east. Its southern borders meet Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo. To the southwest, Cameroon's coast opens onto the Gulf of Guinea.
Its shape stretches far north from the coast, so temperatures, rainfall, vegetation and road conditions vary considerably between regions. The far north approaches the Lake Chad basin, while the south contains extensive equatorial forests.
Cameroon's Ten Regions
Cameroon is divided into ten administrative regions. The table groups them by general location, rather than implying that each is a separate geographical zone.
| Area | Administrative regions and reference points |
|---|---|
| Central and eastern | Centre (Yaoundé), East (Bertoua) and Adamawa (Ngaoundéré); capital, forest and plateau landscapes. |
| Coastal and southern | Littoral (Douala), South (Ebolowa) and South-West (Buea); ports, beaches, rainforest and Mount Cameroon. |
| Western highlands | West (Bafoussam) and North-West (Bamenda); highland towns, hills and crater lakes. |
| Northern plains | North (Garoua) and Far North (Maroua); savanna landscapes and the Lake Chad basin. |

Railway services link major inland and coastal destinations, but schedules and availability can change. International airports serve Yaoundé and Douala.
Use this map for orientation only. For journeys, confirm current transport services, road access and travel advisories with official sources rather than relying on a static route.
Map reading tip: At a national zoom level, smaller settlements and local roads may not be visible. Zoom in to compare Douala with Yaoundé, follow the mountain belt in the west and identify the long distances between the southern forests and Far North.
